NORTHERN COLORADO — September 18, 2026: Firefighters across Colorado remain engaged in wildfire response as officials monitor ongoing fire activity and changing conditions across the state.

The latest National Interagency Fire Center report said firefighters were working to contain 50 uncontained large fires nationwide as of Friday, with more than 12,000 personnel assigned to wildfire incidents. The agency reported 53 new fires across the country the previous day, including two new large incidents. (National Interagency Fire Center)

Colorado continues to have several active fire incidents. However, available incident information does not establish a single large wildfire currently burning across Northern Colorado, and reports should therefore be distinguished by location rather than grouped together as one regional emergency.

One of the state’s largest ongoing incidents is the Aspen Acres Fire, which is burning in southern Colorado rather than Northern Colorado. As of September 18, the fire had reached approximately 102,004 acres and was reported at 82% containment. (FireRisk)

Other Colorado incidents are also being monitored. The Post Fire in Las Animas County, for example, was reported at about 4,335 acres and 90% contained on September 18. (WoodlandFireFighter)

Northern Colorado Fire Situation

For residents of Northern Colorado, the distinction between statewide wildfire activity and an active incident in their immediate area is important. A report of smoke, a small vegetation fire or a fire response does not necessarily indicate a large-scale wildfire or evacuation emergency.

Fire conditions can change quickly, particularly when wind, dry vegetation and other weather factors contribute to fire spread. Residents should rely on local fire departments, county emergency-management agencies and official evacuation notifications for information affecting their specific communities.

At the time of publication, no verified source reviewed for this report confirmed a major Northern Colorado wildfire requiring a broad regional evacuation.

Fire officials continue to urge residents and visitors to exercise caution and avoid interfering with emergency operations.

This story will be updated if authorities release confirmed information about a new significant fire in Northern Colorado, including its location, size, containment, evacuation orders or road closures.
